Published on 03/08/2026 – 9:16 GMT+2 A cyberattack tapped the data of some 31,000 people in Liechtenstein’s register of people behind companies and foundations in the wealthy principality, the government said. The “register of economic beneficiaries” was accessed at night from Wednesday into Thursday last week, the government said. “According to preliminary findings, an unknown perpetrator gained unauthorised digital access to the VwbP (Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution) during the night of July 30, 2026,” a government statement said. It said that the breach was noticed on Thursday, that measures were taken to secure data and the…
New footage shows the aftermath in Pozzuoli after a magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck the Campi Flegrei volcanic area near Naples late on Friday. The shallow quake, recorded at a depth of three kilometers, injured 26 people and was followed by a series of smaller aftershocks. Around 300 residents were evacuated, with most of the damage concentrated in Pozzuoli. Italy’s civil protection service said five people were taken to hospital, while several unoccupied buildings collapsed and landslides were reported. Officials continue to urge caution as seismic and volcanic activity in the area persists.
Samsung Electronics’ chief financial officer said that shortages of microchips used to store digital data are likely to deepen in 2027 and remain tight through 2028. The crunch has been nicknamed “RAMaggedon” after the components known as RAM, or “random-access memory”. It is being caused by chipmakers pivoting to producing high-bandwidth memory (HBM) – a more advanced type of computer memory that is in huge demand to help train and run AI tools. The products on display at In-Technology Services – one of many compact vendors crammed into Hong Kong’s Wan Chai Computer Centre – are intended to inform customers…
Published on 03/08/2026 – 11:15 GMT+2 Between Saturday and Sunday, Donald Trump posted approximately 40 times on his Truth Social platform, with the majority of the content consisting of AI-generated images. His latest AI spree included a map showing Venezuela covered in a US flag with the caption “51st State”, as well as Trump’s face hovering over the top of Greenland with the caption: “Hello, Greenland!”. While Trump is known for going on AI-rampages as part of his “memetic warfare”, one has incurred the wrath of music lovers worldwide. Trump cast himself as none other than The King of Rock…
By Andrea Giuricin is adj. professor in Transport Economics and Logistic at University Milano Bicocca in Italy Published on 03/08/2026 – 11:09 GMT+2 The opinions expressed in this article are those of the author and do not represent in any way the editorial position of Euronews. When a train enters a tunnel at high speed, passengers do not think about the signalling equipment, communications networks and control systems guiding it. They simply trust that someone, somewhere, has made sure those systems are safe. That assumption is precisely what makes it dangerous when it turns out to be wrong. As a transport…
Wildfires continued burning out of control in eastern Washington on Sunday, forcing thousands of homes to evacuate near Spokane, the state’s second-largest city. Hundreds of homes, businesses and other buildings have been destroyed, though no deaths have been reported. The fires have scorched several square miles and are among dozens of active blazes across the western United States, straining firefighting resources. In neighboring Idaho and Oregon, crews entered their tenth day battling a separate wildfire covering hundreds of square miles.
The price for a barrel of Brent crude oil for October delivery lost 5.16% to $83.39 a barrel, while US crude, or WTI, futures for September delivery declined nearly 6% to $79.66 per barrel. Crude declined after US President Donald Trump said fresh talks with Iran would begin later in the day, easing concerns over potential supply disruptions. Additional downward pressure came after Saudi Arabia, Russia and five other key members of OPEC+ agreed in an online meeting on Sunday to boost oil production by 188,000 barrels a day from September, against a backdrop of disruption caused by the Middle…
Published on 30/07/2026 – 6:15 GMT+2 The multipactor effect has been on the European Space Agency’s (ESA) list of concerns for more than 40 years. It is an avalanche of electrons that occurs in vacuum, inside components such as antennas or waveguides, and can ultimately cause irreversible damage to equipment. For decades, the standard solution has been to coat these parts with Alodine, a chromium-based compound that offers good protection but is harmful to the health of those who handle it and to the environment. European authorities have long been pushing for its ban, although none of the alternatives proposed…
Washington is again ratcheting up the pressure on the European Union with new tariff threats. Brussels’ response is strikingly different from a year ago: Don’t retaliate, don’t put on a show for Donald Trump, and don’t let him dictate the timetable. Trump’s recent threat to “immediately initiate” a trade investigation over the European Commission’s $1 billion fine against Google came on top of new tariffs on the EU and dozens of other trading partners, and continuing pressure from Washington over drug pricing. But rather than sounding alarms and scrambling to respond to this new phase of Trump’s global trade war, the EU has shown public…
For the first time in more than a century, a total solar eclipse is coming to mainland Spain, with an even longer encore next summer. It is all the more extraordinary considering Spain’s last full solar eclipse, not counting the Canary Islands, occurred two days before the Titanic sank in 1912. Because that rare hybrid eclipse was a mix between a ring-of-fire and just a few seconds of totality for Spain, some consider 1905 the country’s last pull-out-all-the-stops solar eclipse. Add a crescendoing meteor shower and a six-planet parade on the same day, and the heavens will be overflowing with…
