The Danish government concluded that the drones flown over its airports in recent days are the work of a “professional actor”, but said there was no evidence of Russian involvement, after such activity disrupted its airspace twice in the space of a week. Aalborg airport was forced to shut down for several hours last week after green lights were spotted overhead, and Billund airport was also briefly forced to closed. Three smaller Danish airports also reported drone activity. In his interview with POLITICO, Healey also attacked Labour’s rivals on the right, saying: “I don’t think Nigel Farage or his party…
He also said he would “robustly” reject complaints from MPs about members of his whips’ office who are related to figures in No. 10, such as Imogen Walker — whose husband is Starmer’s chief of staff, Morgan McSweeney. MPs have privately complained that, as a result, they can no longer trust the whips’ office to keep them safe from No. 10. Reynolds, however, said: “I think it should be okay to ask people to be treated on their own merits and their own skills. “Every single one of those people in the whips’ office has an incredible political career…
Published on 29/09/2025 – 20:39 GMT+2 An attorney for the man charged with killing the conservative activist Charlie Kirk asked a judge on Monday for more time to review the large amount of evidence in the case before deciding if the defence will seek a preliminary hearing. A preliminary hearing would determine if there is enough evidence against 22-year-old Tyler Robinson to go forward with a trial. Defendants can waive that step but Robinson’s newly appointed attorney Kathryn Nester said her team did not intend to do so. Utah prosecutors have charged Robinson with aggravated murder and plan to seek the death penalty.…
The Serbian ministry said the 11 detainees were part of a group of 14 and that their activities between April and September 2025 had included “throwing green paint on the Holocaust [memorial in Paris], several synagogues and a Jewish restaurant.” The individuals also placed “pigs’ heads near Muslim religious buildings, all in the Paris area, as well as in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin,” the statement continued. The ministry added the group had “aimed to spread ideas that advocate and incite hatred, discrimination and violence” based on “differences in race, skin color, religious affiliation, nationality and ethnic origin.”…
Published on 29/09/2025 – 19:27 GMT+2 The Alaska summit between US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin was a “victory” for Putin, Finland’s Foreign Minister Elina Valtona said in an interview with Euronews. “To be quite frank I was a little bit sceptical about the Alaska meeting,” she said, adding that “it obviously hasn’t led anywhere.” Ahead of the highly anticipated meeting in Alaska on 15 August, Trump said he’d push Putin to agree to a ceasefire while talks could commence on ending the war. There was also an expectation that a trilateral meeting between Putin, Trump…
“It was a really important moment when Keir went to COP last year,” McCarthy said. “Particularly because Trump had just won the election, that left a vacuum in terms of international leadership and it was very much seen that the U.K. [stepped in].” Now, with Trump stepping up his attacks on the climate agenda in last week’s United Nations speech, McCarthy said Starmer should go to this year’s COP “to signal that there is still that intent to show leadership.” “There are so many Americans I have met since the Trump win who want to say ‘he doesn’t speak for…
When asked if he would become chancellor if offered it by Farage, Lewis said he would “rather wire my nipples to electrodes” and that he would also never follow a party whip. Suggestions from Lewis that could boost Labour in the polls included the introduction of a starter ISA for young people, reforming energy bill standing charges, and overhauling the council tax system. As rumors of a wealth tax swirl, Lewis said that if the government was to pursue the policy, the “most effective” way would instead be to reform council tax rather than introducing a new approach. “You’d probably…
Published on 29/09/2025 – 17:36 GMT+2 •Updated 17:57 Water pollution is worsening in the EU with 62% of rivers, lakes and coastal sites currently in a bad ecological state, a significant increase from the 40% registered in 2020, according to a report from the EU environment agency (EEA) presented on Monday. Published every five years, the EEA report provides a ‘health-check’ for Europe’s environment, climate and sustainability with this year’s report raising the alarm on the deteriorating state of its waters. Only 37% of Europe’s rivers and lakes had a ‘good’ or ‘high’ ecological status, according to EEA’s report, which urges policymakers…
Relations between Budapest and Kyiv have deteriorated in recent months as Hungary persists in blocking Ukraine’s EU accession while preserving energy ties with Moscow despite the Kremlin’s ongoing full-scale invasion. Orbán argued that Kyiv has already “lost one-fifth of its territory” to Russia and that its survival depends entirely on Western aid. “That is where sovereignty ended, and we support the remaining territory,” he said, adding that Hungary and Ukraine “may disagree, but we are not enemies.” Ordering an investigation into the incident, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday claimed “likely Hungarian” drones had crossed the border to conduct reconnaissance…
Intersex people — with biological characteristics that do not fit typical male or female patterns, or with traits of both — face increasing levels of violence and harassment in Europe, says the latest report from the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights. Around one-third of intersex people in Europe (34%) reported having been physically or sexually assaulted in the five years before the survey was conducted, which is a sharp increase from 2019 (22%). This rate is three times higher than the figure for LGBTIQ people overall. The highest levels of violent experiences were reported by respondents in Austria (45%),…
