Another day, another James Bond casting rumour.

The identity of the seventh 007 (if you don’t count David Niven’s take in the 1967 spoof Casino Royale) is Hollywood’s best-kept secret and no official announcement has yet been made.

Actors like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Tom Holland, Harris Dickinson and Scott Rose-Marsh have been rumoured to be in contention for the next superspy, and recent reports suggested that Callum Turner had already been cast as Bond.

Now, another credible report states that the internet’s current heartthrob, Jacob Elordi, has auditioned for Bond 26 director Denis Villeneuve.

The 28-year-old Australian star of Eurphoria, Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla and Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is the current frontrunner to don the tuxedo.

Hardly surprising news, as Elordi was previously mentioned in Amazon’s Bond shortlist and the actor’s star is on the rise, especially after being Oscar nominated for his role as Frankenstein’s creature and winning the Critics Choice Award for Best Supporting Actor for the role.

If he gets the much sought after role, Elordi will become the second Australian actor to play Bond (after George Lazenby in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service); the tallest 007 yet (the imposing actor stands at 6’5’’ / 1m96); and the youngest spy ever – something which aligns with previous reports that Amazon was looking for a younger actor to reboot the franchise, following Daniel Craig’s swansong No Time To Die.

As always, until the official announcement, bets are still open and expect more non-stop speculation. A final decision is supposed to drop mid-2026.

Jacob Elordi can be seen on the big screen next month in Emerald Fennell’s eagerly anticipated but already controversial Wuthering Heights, an adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic novel. So expect to hear a lot more about Elordi in the coming months.

Bond 26 will be directed by Denis Villeneuve and is being written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. Production is expected to kick off in 2027, with a release planned for 2028. It will be the first Bond movie since Amazon gained full creative control of the franchise, with long-serving producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson stepping down.
