Parts of Paris and the neighbouring Hauts-de-Seine region were struck by a power outage Thursday morning, temporarily leaving 55,000 homes without power, French media reported.

Besides a large number of homes, the power outage also shut off traffic lights and streetlights. Some metro and suburban train lines were also brought to a halt.

The blackout lasted just around five minutes, according to electricity grid operator Enedis, quoted by Le Parisien. However, a couple thousand homes still remain impacted.

According to Enedis, the blackout was the result of a technical icident at the RTE substation in Issy-les-Moulineaux. RTE manages France’s high-voltage electricity transmissions.

The electricity grid operator apologised for the inconvenience caused.

This is a developing story and our journalists are working on further updates.
