Grain wagons from Russia were dispatched to Armenia through Azerbaijani territory on Sunday, as reopening transit routes remains part of the normalisation process between Baku and Yerevan.

A total of 25 grain wagons, weighing at 1,746 tonnes, have been sent from Russia to Armenia via a transit through Azerbaijan.

So far, a total of 285 wagons, carrying nearly 19,900 tonnes of grain, have been transported.

In the past few months, several shipments of this kind have already taken place. The first batch of grain to Armenia via Azerbaijan was sent in November last year, carrying Kazakh wheat.

Cargo shipments are being carried out as part of the broader peace agenda. They became possible after transit restrictions on goods to Armenia, in place since the 1990s due to conflict, were lifted.

The decision was officially announced by Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev on 21 October 2025, following a meeting in Astana with Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

All shipments have followed the same route: Azerbaijan via Georgia, with the final destination being Armenia’s Dalarik station.
