For many fans, the Toy Story films should have ended in 2010, with the perfect trilogy capper. However, Pixar had other ideas for its flagship franchise, and we got the lackluster fourth instalment nine years later.

Next month, Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the gang will be back for a fifth adventure, which hopefully will recapture some of the early magic. And with that in mind, Pixar are clearly banking on generating some buzz (pun intended) in the shape of Taylor Swift.

At least that’s what the rumour suggests…

Eagle-eyed Swifties noticed that a countdown clock appeared on the singer’s official website, with the Toy Story cloud background. The speculation is that Swift is about to deliver a song for the upcoming Toy Story 5 soundtrack.

The countdown appeared on 30 April for about 10 minutes before it was taken down. Fans went into overdrive, managing to grab screenshots and share them on social media to speculate what could be coming. They also made the connection between her single ‘Tim McGraw’, a country song rather suitable for a certain computer-generated cowboy character, which was released on 19 June 2006.

Toy Story 5 hits cinemas twenty years later, on 19 June… Coincidence? Not for the Swiftie detectives.

Nothing has yet been confirmed, but a new countdown has appeared, ending on 5 May…

A collaboration between Pixar and Swift would work in Toy Story 5 ’s favour, as Pixar is banking on this fifth adventure to kickstart a banner summer season.

It also wouldn’t be the first time Taylor Swift has written music for movies, with the singer having penned songs for the likes of The Hunger Games (‘Safe & Sound’), One Chance (‘Sweeter Than Fiction’), Fifty Shades Darker (‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever’), Cats (‘Beautiful Ghosts’) and Where The Crawdads Sing (‘Carolina’).

Toy Story 5 hits cinemas worldwide on 19 June 2026.
