Thousands of kites took to the skies above Denmark’s west coast on Sunday as visitors gathered for the annual Fanø International Kite Festival, one of the largest events of its kind in the world.

The video shows giant dragon, octopus, whale and astronaut-shaped kites flying above the beach, while teams of enthusiasts work together to launch and guide them.

Organisers say the festival attracts around 5,000 kite flyers from 26 countries each year and features roughly 25,000 kites. Participants range from hobbyists to experienced kite makers, many bringing large inflatable designs that dominate the skyline.

The event has become a major attraction on the North Sea island of Fanø, drawing visitors who gather along the beach to watch the coordinated flying displays and unusual creations.
