It’s one thing to get on the property ladder, but to own an entire island? Now we’re talking.
Tucked away in the idyllic Venetian Lagoon, famed for its calm, shallow waters that link to the Adriatic Sea, the island of Crevan is on the market for €5.5 million – and it comes with more than just a nice view.
Located around 7.5 kilometres from the bustle of mainland Venice, the 5,700 square metre private island offers lush vegetation, alongside sweeping views of neighbouring Venetian islands.
Boat owners will also be delighted to hear that the property features two boat moorings and a dockyard for easy sea access.
But perhaps its biggest selling point is its history.
The island is home to a restored Napoleonic-era fortress, which was later converted into a 215 square metre residence that has retained its original mid-20th-century layout. On offer at the sea-facing home are four bedrooms and three bathrooms.
“Crevan offers something increasingly rare in Venice,” Dimitri Corti, Founder and CEO of Lionard Luxury Real Estate, which is overseeing the sale of the property, told Euronews Travel.
“[It offers] the possibility of being extraordinarily close to the city while experiencing an almost complete sense of separation from it.
“Just a few kilometres from Venice, the island is a private fragment of the lagoon, accessible only by water or helicopter, surrounded by nature and overlooking Burano and Torcello.”
Referred to as “Venice’s most colourful island”, Burano’s technicolour homes reflect into the canal’s teal waters. This Venetian island is also known for its local lace and glassmaking techniques, with visitors able to try their hand at the crafts themselves at workshops.
Meanwhile, Torcello is home to just a dozen inhabitants. This quiet island is a short ACTV Vaporetto waterbus ride from Burano and offers a quaint place for visitors to discover the island’s unique finds rooted in local legends. This includes Attila’s throne; a mysterious marble seat in the centre of the square.
For Corti, what makes the island of Crevan “truly distinctive” is the “combination of landscape, privacy and history”. He added: “Owning Crevan does not simply mean owning a residence, but becoming the custodian of an entire island and of a small part of the Venetian Lagoon’s heritage.”
