Move over, Jack Dawson – there’s a new “king of the world”.
Peter Parker, aka: Spider-Man, has now officially dethroned Titanic out of the all-time global box-office Top 5, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day continuing its worldwide domination as the highest-grossing comic book film of the 2020s.
According to recent box office numbers, Brand New Day has racked up $2.332 billion globally since its release on 31 July and has overtaken James Cameron’s Oscar-winning 1997 hit, which grossed approximately $2.264 billion worldwide across its original run and subsequent re-releases.
It has also surpassed the 2025 Chinese animation fantasy film Ne Zha 2 and now sits as the fourth highest-grossing movie of all time.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day ’s historic box office run could soon lead it to overlap box-office juggernaut Avatar: The Way of Water, which has a worldwide growth of $2.334 billion. If it does so and reaches the Top 3, only Avengers: Endgame (2019) and Avatar (2009) stand in its way.
Avengers: Endgame is set to get a re-release on 25 September under the title Avengers: Endgame (Encore), in anticipation of Avengers: Doomsday, which comes out on 18 December. This should narrow the gap between Endgame and Avatar for the top spot.
Spidey’s newest adventure became the second fastest film to cross the $2bn mark, following Avengers: Endgame, which got there after a record-setting 11 days. It joined only seven other films to do so.

- Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) – $2.334 billion
- Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) – $2.332 billion

- Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) – $2.071 billion
- Avengers: Infinity War (2018) – $2.052 billion
