Russia launched several drone strikes at eastern Ukraine overnight into Tuesday, just hours after the expiration of a three-day truce.

The strikes killed a man and wounded at least four in the Dnipropetrovsk region, the head of the regional military administration Oleksandr Ganzha reported on Tuesday.

“The enemy attacked five districts of the region more than 20 times with drones, artillery, and aerial bombs,” he wrote on Telegram.

Russian forces also targeted Kyiv and struck a 20-storey residential building in the capital, Ukrainian media reported citing local officials.

And the Fastiv region, near Kyiv, also became the target of Russian strikes. A kindergarten, a four-storey residential building and two private homes were damaged, regional Governor Mykola Kalashnyk wrote on Telegram.

Russia launched the strikes just hours after the US-brokered 72-hour truce came to an end on Monday.

President Donald Trump announced on Friday that a three-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine would start on 9 May.

Moscow and Kyiv traded accusations of violations, but no major strikes were reported, despite continued drone activity and civilian casualties on both sides.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv refrained from conducting long-range retaliatory strikes but would react if Russia decided to return to a full-scale war following the temporary ceasefire.

“Ukraine refrained from long-range actions in response to the absence of Russian massive attacks,” Zelenskyy said in an evening address on Sunday.

“In the future, we will react in the same mirror manner. And if the Russians decide to return to a full-scale war, our sanctions for this will be immediately noticeable.”
