New details have emerged about the most eagerly anticipated wedding of the year. The “Jornal de Notícias” (source in Portuguese) obtained the marriage certificate of Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez, reporting that the civil ceremony took place at the couple’s home in Cascais on Tuesday 11 August, at 1.30 pm.
In addition to their five children,as had initially been disclosed by the agency representing the player, four witnesses were present. They were Miguel Paixão, a friend of the footballer since his youth days at Sporting, Ivana Rodríguez, Georgina’s sister, and Jose Rodríguez Sangil and Monica Gonzalez Martinez, a Spanish jeweller and his wife.
The marriage was formalised by Maria Manuel Folhadela de Oliveira, a registrar who travelled from the city of Porto to officiate.
The document also shows that the Portuguese footballer and his wife chose the separation of property regime (source in Portuguese). Under this system, as a rule, each spouse retains ownership of the assets they already held before the wedding and of any property they acquire afterwards.
However, the separation of property regime is not the default arrangement for marriages in Portugal and, to opt for it, couples must sign a prenuptial agreement. In Cristiano and Georgina’s case, the document reveals that this agreement was signed the day before the ceremony, at a notary office in Lisbon.
Furthermore, according to the document seen by “Jornal de Notícias”, neither of the newlyweds adopted the other’s surname after the wedding, and they continue to list the Saudi capital, Riyadh, as their usual place of residence.
The couple, who have been in a relationship since 2016 and announced their engagement in August 2025, have thus formalised a union that had been the subject of speculation for months.
And, contrary to what many had expected, Ronaldo and Georgina chose an intimate ceremony to formalise their union. Indeed, the previous Saturday, hundreds of people had gathered near Funchal Cathedral, in Madeira, where the footballer was born, convinced they might witness the wedding of one of the world’s most high-profile couples, which ultimately did not happen.
The document now released by “Jornal de Notícias” does not name Dolores Aveiro, Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother, nor the footballer’s sisters, Elma and Katia Aveiro, among those present at the ceremony.
