“Le délai d’ici début juin est suffisant pour organiser paisiblement ma succession”, a-t-il pris la peine de préciser.

Entamé en 2021, son deuxième mandat à la tête de la banque centrale française aurait dû se terminer en octobre 2027, soit quelques mois après la prochaine échéance présidentielle. Son départ ouvre donc la voie à une nouvelle nomination, prérogative du président de la République.

En rejoignant la Fondation Apprentis d’Auteil, François Villeroy de Galhau fait “un choix qui correspond à ses valeurs, lui qui n’a jamais caché sa foi catholique”, commente une porte-parole de la Banque de France. L’aide sociale à l’enfance et la formation des jeunes en difficulté sont les principales missions de l’organisation.

Le banquier, aussi passé par Bercy au tournant des années 2000 et par la direction de BNP Paribas entre 2011 et2015, occupera cette activité de manière bénévole.
