Fans of British singer Bonnie Tyler received good news on Tuesday, with the artist’s team announcing that she had woken up from the induced coma she was placed in more than a month ago at the hospital in Faro, in Portugal, where she lives.

However, the singer’s team, via social media, says that Tyler, whose real name is Gaynor Hopkins, remains in a “very serious condition” and is still in the intensive care unit.

The 75-year-old artist from Wales underwent emergency surgery for a perforated intestine on 30 March and was then placed in an induced coma to facilitate treatment of a widespread infection that followed the operation. More recently, she suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest, which doctors managed to resolve.

Bonnie Tyler, who for several years has divided most of her time between the United Kingdom and Portugal, became famous in the 1980s with songs such as “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “Holding Out for a Hero”, and earned multiple platinum records. In 2023, she was awarded the Order of the British Empire by the Prince of Wales.

In March, before falling ill, she did a mini-tour of the United Kingdom, with concerts in London, Manchester and Cardiff, and also released a new single, titled “Only Love”.
