“There is no time to lose: Our country has to feel now that things are getting better,” Merz said. For businesses, though, this appears to be taking too long. Ifo’s survey suggested that not only were companies less happy with their current business, but that expectations had also darkened noticeably. “The surprisingly sharp decline … dampens hopes for a rapid economic recovery,” Deutsche Bank economist Robin Winkler said in a note to clients. The news follows on the heels of another survey from Tuesday: S&P Global’s Purchasing Manager Index. This showed Germany’s private sector expanding at the fastest pace in…

By&nbspEuronews Published on 24/09/2025 – 13:46 GMT+2 An old video of a march in Warsaw to mark Poland’s independence day has resurfaced online, with social media users falsely claiming that it depicts mass protests in Paris against the French government. One post, for example, says that 250,000 French people took to the streets against the government’s cuts to healthcare spending and public holidays. Before being ousted in a no-confidence vote, France’s (now former) Prime Minister François Bayrou had planned a raft of budget cuts, including the removal of two public holidays, to try to slash France’s €3 trillion debt. Published on 24/09/2025 – 13:16 GMT+2 The United Kingdom says it has saved a record sum in a major fraud crackdown, thanks in part to a “high-tech push” that will now include artificial intelligence (AI). The UK’s anti-fraud teams reclaimed about £480 million (€556 million) in the year ending in April 2025, compared to £373 million (€432 million) in the previous period, the government said. The fraud detection teams cross-referenced data that was held by different government departments to claw back the money, most of which was public funding. “We’re using cutting-edge AI and data tools to stay one step…

The rhetorical shift raised questions around the world over whether Trump has decisively changed posture on the Ukraine war, after months of wooing Russian leader Vladimir Putin and failing to hit Moscow with much-hyped massive sanctions. Moscow brushed off Trump’s broadside, taking exception to the U.S. president’s remark that “Putin and Russia are in BIG Economic trouble, and this is the time for Ukraine to act.” Peskov said that despite “certain points of tensions” due to Western sanctions following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russia “maintains resilience and macroeconomic stability.”

Several vessels belonging to the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza were targeted by Israeli drones in international waters south of Crete on Tuesday, organizers said. “Our boats were repeatedly attacked by military drones. They struck us with unknown but irritating substances, with sound bombs, and even with drones that deliberately damaged the masts of several vessels,” said Maria Elena Delia, the GSF’s Italian spokesperson, in an Instagram post. “These attacks targeted boats flying Italian, British, and Polish flags. That’s the same as attacking Italy, the U.K., and Poland — essentially a declaration of war against those…

Some countries’ leaders are watching rising seas threaten to swallow their homes. Others are watching their citizens die in floods, hurricanes and heat waves, all exacerbated by climate change. But the world US President Donald Trump described in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday didn’t match the one many world leaders in the audience are contending with. Nor did it align with what scientists have long been observing. “This ‘climate change,’ it’s the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world, in my opinion,” Trump said. “All of these predictions made by the United Nations and…

The new purse for the agricultural policy, commonly known as CAP, guarantees that around €300 billion will go into farmers’ pockets through various streams funded by the EU and co-financed by member countries. Incidents of unidentified drones flying in Germany’s airspace are on the rise with the country’s air navigation service DFS saying 144 drone overflights have been logged this year alone, with 35 incidents clustered around Frankfurt Airport. What remains unclear is how many of those drones were taking part in espionage. The majority were reported by pilots, while other cases were discovered by air traffic controllers. The majority of these drone flights, around 90% on average, were reported from areas surrounding airports, DFS told Euronews. For this reason, the Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt wants to rapidly expand Germany’s defence against drones.…
