Bathed in the light of the August full moon, archaeological sites, monuments and museums across Greece are once again “dressed up” this year, as part of the established event of the Ministry of Culture, now in its 27th consecutive edition.

The celebrations reach their peak today, Friday 28 August 2026, with dozens of cultural venues opening their doors to the public and offering the opportunity for a different kind of night-time visit, with the August moon as a backdrop.

The activities are not confined to the night of the full moon, as the programme continues until Sunday 30 August.

Concerts, theatre and dance performances, exhibitions, as well as organised guided tours are included in this year’s programme. The events are organised by departments of the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage and the General Directorate for Restoration, Museums and Technical Works, in many cases with the support of municipalities, regions and cultural institutions.

According to the Ministry of Culture, a total of 126 archaeological sites, historic locations, monuments and museums across the country are taking part in this year’s event, offering free admission to visitors on the night of the full moon.

Specifically, cultural events have been scheduled at 61 venues, while a further 65 archaeological sites, monuments and museums will be open to visitors without a ticket. Depending on the site, opening hours range from 19:30 or 20:00 until 23:00 or midnight.

The updated programme with all the activities and venues taking part in the celebration is available on the official website of the Ministry of Culture, culture.gov.gr (source in Greek).
