My favourite way to book a holiday is by opening up Skyscanner, typing in my nearest airport, popping in some dates, and hitting the “everywhere” search.

The tool has taken me everywhere from Skopje in North Macedonia to the Maldives, but not everyone is lucky enough to have a megahub like London Heathrow or Doha’s Hamad International as their home base.

Live in Europe and wondering just how connected your nearest airport is? Wonder no more, because we’ve rounded up the top 25 most connected airports on the continent.

Global travel data company OAG has shared with Euronews Travel the number of destinations that each of the top airports in Europe serve, and there’s a clear winner.

Serving 294 destinations, Istanbul Airport is the most connected airport in Europe. That’s hardly surprising, given Turkish Airlines – which uses the airport as its home base – holds the Guinness World Record for the most countries flown to by an airline.

Travellers passing through Istanbul Airport can head anywhere from Antalya and Bodrum to Mexico City and Sydney.

Joint second place went to Paris Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam Schiphol, both of which have direct flights to 262 destinations.

The most connected airports in Europe

1. Istanbul, Türkiye – 294 direct destinations

2= Paris Charles de Gaulle, France – 262

2= Amsterdam Schiphol, Netherlands – 262

4. Frankfurt, Germany – 258

5. Rome Fiumicino, Italy – 230

6. Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, Spain – 227

7. Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, Spain – 220

8. Munich, Germany – 211

9. London Heathrow, UK – 210

10. London Gatwick, UK – 200

11. Dublin, Ireland – 193

12= Manchester, UK – 188

12= Milan Malpensa, Italy – 188

14= Zurich, Switzerland – 187

14= Antalya, Türkiye – 187

16. Palma de Mallorca, Spain – 185

17. Vienna, Austria – 182

18. Copenhagen Kastrup, Denmark – 176

19. Athens Eleftherios Venizelos, Greece – 169

20. Málaga, Spain – 166

21. Paris Orly, France – 156

22. Lisbon, Portugal – 153

23. Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen, Türkiye – 149

24. Oslo Gardermoen, Norway – 142

25. Moscow Sheremetyevo, Russia – 124

The number of destinations flown to is accurate as of 29 July 2026. This number changes frequently.

OAG has a Megahubs report on its website, with the next edition due in September.

To rank the top 50 most-connected airports, OAG looks at both the number of destinations served directly as well as the number of scheduled connections to and from international flights on the airport’s busiest day.

On this basis, London Heathrow was named the top global megahub in 2025, followed by Istanbul Airport and Amsterdam Schiphol.
