City life got you down? Can’t stand the hour-long commute on a crowded metro? One unannounced Teams call away from quitting? Dreaming of a peaceful village over the loud, chaotic mess offered by modern metropolises?

We have good news, as this entire village in Ireland could be yours.

Listed at a cool €20 million, the Village at Lyons is a 20-acre estate found a 30-minute drive outside of Dublin in County Kildare.

Accessed via a gated tree-lined avenue, the village is currently being operated as a five-star hotel, Cliff at Lyons.

The property offers 32 individual rooms across several historic buildings, as well as five self-catering two-bedroom cottages. The hotel also has an indoor and outdoor spa – The Well in the Garden – and several restaurants, including Aimsir, a two-Michelin starred fine dining restaurant from chef Jordan Bailey, that closed in early 2025.

The Village at Lyons is being sold by Sotheby’s International Realty, with other amenities listed including a library, a home theatre, an artist studio, a yoga space and an outdoor hot tub.

The history of the Village at Lyons

The Village at Lyons, which lies on the banks of the Grand Canal connecting Dublin to the River Shannon, dates back to the late 18th century.

At its peak, the village included a flourmill – once run by Joseph P Shackleton, a relative of the Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton – a barracks, a forge and several cottages.

After the mill burnt down, the village began to decline, with many buildings falling into a state of disrepair.

Ryanair founder Tony Ryan purchased the village, and its main house, which is not part of the sale, in 1996, with work to restore the buildings and its gardens taking place between 1999 and 2008.
