The US Secret Service arrested a man near the White House on Thursday evening who “threatened to kill President Donald Trump,” according to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Officers spotted the man “acting suspicious in his car” as he was parked on Constitution Avenue in Washington and approached him, at which point he is said to have told them he had “heard voices in his head” telling him to kill Trump.
“The officers then discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen, and the suspect admitted to having weapons in his vehicle,” the statement continued. “Upon discovering three different firearms – including one rifle – as well as dozens of rounds of ammunition, the officers arrested the suspect.”
The suspect was identified as Venezuelan national Ronny Yordrix Guanipa Chrinos.
Chrinos has been charged with multiple offences, including possession of dangerous weapons and theft, per the DHS. He is in the custody of the US Marshals Service. DHS said Chrinos had illegally entered the US through Texas in March 2024.
The incident is the latest in a series of arrests over threats made to Trump since his return to the White House in January 2025.
“This incident reflects the heightened threat environment in which we operate, as well as the continued number of armed individuals who are drawn to the White House complex,” Secret Service Director Sean Curran said.
“While our personnel are trained to respond to situations like this and we remain confident in our tactics, we are alarmed by the increase in threat cases that continue to arise,” he added.
Markwayne Mullin, secretary of Homeland Security, added: “Thanks to our brave Secret Service officers, this criminal illegal alien with three firearms in his vehicle was arrested near the White House before he could harm anyone.”
