White House hits back at ‘loser’ Bruce Springsteen as he announces politically charged US tour

The White House has made its feelings perfectly clear regarding Bruce Springsteen, calling one of the world’s best-selling artists a “loser” in a raging new statement.

The veteran rocker, a longtime critic of Donald Trump and his administration, recently announced the US leg of his upcoming and politically charged tour, ‘The Land Of Hopes And Dreams’, which launches in Minneapolis on 31 March.

Springsteen will play 19 arena shows, with the first few dates landing in cities heavily targeted by ICE: Minneapolis is followed by Portland (3 April) and Los Angeles (7 & 9 April).

The tour, which ends with a 20th date on 27 May at Nationals Park in Washington DC., is billed as a “celebration” and “defense” of “American democracy, American freedom, our American Constitution and our sacred American dream – all of which are under attack by our wannabe king and his rogue government in Washington, D.C.”.

Springsteen said of the tour: “We are living through dark, disturbing and dangerous times, but do not despair – the cavalry is coming! We will be rocking your town in celebration and in defense of America – American democracy, American freedom, our American Constitution and our sacred American dream – all of which are under attack by our wannabe king and his rogue government in Washington, D.C. Everyone, regardless of where you stand or what you believe in, is welcome – so come on out and join the United Free Republic of E Street Nation for an American spring of Rock ‘n’ Rebellion! I’ll see you there!”

Unsurprisingly, the tour – with its poster emblazoned with the rallying cry “No Kings” – is not being celebrated by Trump and his administration.

In a comment to Politico, Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung hit out at The Boss, using his own song titles against him.

“When this loser Springsteen comes back home to his own City of Ruins in his head, he’ll realize his Glory Days are behind him and his fans have left him Out in the Street, putting him in a Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out because he has a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has rotted his brain,” Cheung said.

In case you were wondering, “Trump Derangement Syndrome” is the frequently trotted out pseudo-scientific pejorative / Orwellian Newspeak weaponised by those who want to silence critics of the president’s actions and policy positions.

Cheung’s statement is hardly surprising, as Springsteen has previously called for Trump to be impeached and said that he was “corrupt, incompetent and treasonous”.

In recent weeks, he has criticised Trump’s deployment of ICE across the country, calling for ICE to “get the f*ck out of Minneapolis” following the death of Renee Good. He recently released a protest song, ‘Streets of Minneapolis‘, inspired by the tragic deaths of Good and Alex Pretti. The song His song takes aim at ICE as well as Trump advisor Stephen Miller and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, both of which have peddled falsehoods about Good and Pretti, accusing them of being “domestic terrorists”.

“Their claim was self-defense, sir / Just don’t believe your eyes / It’s our blood and bones / And these whistles and phones / Against Miller and Noem’s dirty lies.”

Springsteen’s highly anticipated tour is expected to reflect his commitment to defending the core values of American democracy. And despite what Cheung states, the tour will most likely not flop, as The Boss previously sold nearly five million tickets for his last tour and grossed over $729 million worldwide, making him one of the top five touring artists of all time.

Tickets for the US leg of ‘The Land Of Hopes And Dreams’ tour go on sale tomorrow.
