The 2023 Nobel Physics laureate Geoffrey Hinton is renowned for his words of wisdom regarding computer science having led groundbreaking research on artificial intelligence.

He’s widely regarded as one of the godfathers of AI for his pioneering work on developing artificial neural networks which laid the foundations for many AI systems now used everyday by millions of people.

But in more recent years, Hinton’s added his voice to others who’ve spoken out against the potential catastrophic consquences of leaving AI technology unchecked.

Euronews Culture spoke to the award-winning computer scientist at the Starmus Festival celebrating science and the arts about his predictions and why James Cameron’s ‘The Terminator’ is one of his favourite films.
