Varna’s coast has found its feathered celebrity in Stoycho, the pink pelican who struts near the railway station, charms passersby and poses for photos.
Stoycho was rescued last year after being found injured in a nearby town. Treated at Varna Zoo, he later flew off, only to return and settle by the Bulgarian city’s bustling promenade.
Experts say it’s rare for pelicans to choose such urban surroundings, but Stoycho seems to be doing well, finding food and companionship. A regular sight among fishermen and local shops, Stoycho often stops by for a visit.
While some offer the pink pelican a variety of treats, Varna Zoo experts advise that only fish is safe, warning that sugary or processed foods can be harmful to its health.
