An extraordinary collection of modern and contemporary art is up for grabs at Christie’s London this month.

Masterpieces ranging from Mondrian to Warhol are among 200 artworks owned by Peter Simon, the British entrepreneur and founder of high-street fashion brand Monsoon.

They include a 1978 Francis Bacon that is likely to be the most valuable painting for sale, with an estimate of between €15 and €19 million.

It was painted seven years after the traumatic death of Bacon’s lover George Dyer.

Other highlights expected to fetch millions include a Joan Miró from 1925 and an untitled William de Kooning artwork.
