MEP Brando Benifei says citizens “need to be worried” about AI, warning of “real risks” such as the “loss of control”, following warnings from former AI company employees about the risk of AI “killing humanity”.

Benifei, one of the main MEPs involved in negotiating the EU’s first legislation on AI, is calling for a “global treaty” on Artificial Intelligence and urging the US and China to “work together” with the European Union.

He insists the EU has “the technical capabilities” to put guardrails in place, but now needs the “political will to do it”.
