Spectators lined the streets of Zundert in the Netherlands on Sunday as giant floats covered in dahlias rolled through the town during the annual Flower Parade. Volunteers spent months building the displays, attaching hundreds of thousands of blooms by hand.
The parade brings together 20 neighbourhood associations, which compete for the top prize with elaborate floats inspired by themes ranging from war and commedia dell’arte to the film ‘Interstellar’. Footage from the preparations shows volunteers working on the structures and carefully fixing individual dahlias in place.
The event, known locally as the Corso, has been held in Zundert since 1936. Organisers say around 400,000 dahlias can be used on a single float. The parade draws visitors from across the Netherlands and abroad and is seen by locals as a source of pride for North Brabant.
