Last year, during the presidential campaign, Trump said Swift would “probably pay a price” for endorsing his opponent, Kamala Harris.
Trump’s comments came after the pop star came out in support of Harris, the Democratic candidate.
“I’m voting for Kamala Harris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” Swift wrote.
Swift has backed Democratic candidates in U.S. elections since becoming more open about her political leanings following years of ambiguity during her early career. An Instagram post she made in 2020, imploring fans to register to vote on Vote.org, led to a jump in participation on the website, said its CEO.
Earlier this month, Trump dragged Swift into the row over Sydney Sweeney’s controversial American Eagle jeans ad. The ad campaign features a denim-clad Sweeney, who proclaims jeans, or genes, “are passed down from parents to offspring.” Critics have said the ad promotes eugenics, the belief that certain traits are more desirable and humans should selectively reproduce to prioritize them.
“Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there,” Trump wrote on August 4. “It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are ‘flying off the shelves.’”
“Or just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift. Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can’t stand her (HATE!),” Trump continued. “She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became NO LONGER HOT.”
It is not confirmed whether Trump will be invited to the upcoming wedding, though it seems highly unlikely.
