Airport authorities announced delays to all departing flights after the tyre of a Ryanair plane exploded upon landing. The plane is currently stuck on the runway.

All departing flights at Milan’s Bergamo airport — also known as Orio al Serio — have been suspended, after an incident involving a Ryanair flight coming from Barcelona.

The plane was landing at around 8:00 am local time when one of the tyres exploded, leaving it stuck on the runway.

The incident reportedly happened just seconds after the plane touched the ground.

Airport authorities issued a statement in the following hours.

“SACBO [the company that manages the airport] advises that due to an aircraft grounded on the runway due to technical problems, operations are suspended,” the statement read. “Departing flights are delayed and arriving flights may be diverted or cancelled until reopened.”

Firefighters evacuated all passengers and the crew, and no one was injured, according to local reports.

All flights supposed to land at Orio al Serio have been diverted to the nearby airports of Verona and Milan Malpensa.
