With the growing chaos in the world, tourism that prioritises wellness, nature, and above all else, silence, is soaring in popularity.

If you’re looking for all of the above with a side of gorgeous Scottish Highlands scenery, this new retreat might just be for you.

Set to open in June 2026, Kilchoan Estate by Dunton is located in the Knoydart Peninsula between Loch Nevis and Loch Hourn. The most remote part of the UK mainland, the property is only accessible via a 27-kilometre hike from Glenfinnan, or a 30-minute ferry from Mallaig.

The first European property from Dunton, the brand focuses on design-led retreats in remote locations, with other retreats including Dunton Hot Springs and Telluride ski resort Lumière by Dunton, both of which are in Colorado.

“Kilchoan Estate represents a deeply personal vision for Dunton – one rooted in stewardship, authenticity, and a profound respect for place,” said Edoardo Rossi, executive vice president of Dunton.

“This is not simply an opening, but the revival of a storied Highland landscape, where guests can experience an extraordinary sense of remoteness without sacrificing the warmth, hospitality, and culinary integrity that define our brand.”

What to expect at Kilchoan Estate by Dunton

Kilchoan Estate by Dunton will open with five private stone and wood cottages ranging from two to five bedrooms, with a further two cottages set to open in early 2027.

Renovated by London-based studio Waldo Works, the buildings make use of natural materials such as stone, pine and slate to ensure they sit harmoniously within the landscape.

Interiors put the spotlight on Scottish designers, with Angus Ross tables and Adam Ross lighting, alongside textiles from British and Irish makers including Bute, Mourne Textiles, and the Isle Mill.

On the food front, menus are seasonal with locally sourced ingredients, with meals served in the main lodge, the Long House.

Set across 13,000 acres, there’s plenty to explore and do, from mountain hikes and wild swimming to fishing and kayaking. Kilchoan Estate will offer guided nature walks, where you’ll get the chance to spot red deer, golden eagles and marine life, and you’ll also be able to book coastal boat excursions.

After a long day in the great outdoors, guests can relax in the spa, which comes complete with a sauna and a yoga studio.

If that wasn’t enough to keep you busy, Knoydart is also an excellent place for stargazing thanks to the lack of light pollution.

Rates start at £1,100 (€1,260) per night for two guests, including all meals, wines and spirits, plus ferry transfers.
