Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha responded to the border strikes with a post on X stating that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forces are “knocking directly on the doors of the EU and NATO.”
“Russian barbarians are at your gate, dear partners,” Sybiha added, urging Ukraine’s allies to “throw the full weight of your sanctions at Putin’s aggressive regime.”
Attacks on the EU’s borders have intensified as some intelligence agencies warn of a buildup towards a direct attack by Russia on a NATO member country. Europe faces “an escalating campaign of threats” and “hybrid warfare,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said last month.
Russia’s “hybrid war” campaign has also been linked to an explosive-laden drone found near Leipzig airport in Germany, a sea drone later blown up by Romania in the Black Sea, and reports of a Russian plot to assassinate the chief executive of German arms producer Rheinmetall.
