Trump ended his post with a demand to end the conflict in Ukraine. “This ridiculous and never-ending war with Ukraine must be ended,” he said. “The whole World suffers as 25,000 people, mostly soldiers, are being killed each month. What a shame!”
Responding to Trump’s message, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on X that his country was ready to stop its attacks on Russia if the Kremlin did the same for Ukraine.
“Ukraine’s energy sector, critical infrastructure, and our food exports must stop being targets for Russia, and this will lead to matching de-escalation steps on our part,” he wrote, adding, “the nature of war is now such that the aggressor will suffer as well.”
Earlier this month, Trump called on Ukraine to stop targeting Russia’s energy infrastructure, saying attacks on the diesel industry were “hurting the world” by causing fuel shortages.
The two men are set to meet in New York Tuesday — a meeting Zelenskyy said “could change a lot,” noting that there was “diplomatic momentum” in current talks.
“There are ideas for de-escalation steps and for addressing fundamental security issues – energy security, food security, and the protection of human life,” said the Ukrainian president. “We are working together with the American team and are ready to take really serious steps.”
