Jenkin Van Zyl: ‘Enclosure’

British artist Jenkin Van Zyl’s new film and installation is a sensory trip inside the world of obsolete technologies that have outlasted the society that created them. Set within a decaying facility, the film follows a former actress who allowed her body to be replicated for tourists to inhabit. Once this replica becomes outdated, she decides to terminate it — unleashing chaos. Ambient with neon and the eerie remains of an older world slipping away, it’s a richly imagined world that contemplates self-preservation and commodification. Find out more here.
Broken: The Power of the Fragment
When: 25 September 2026 – 24 January 2027
Where: Palazzo Strozzi, Florence Opening on 25 September and running until 24 January 2027
Fragments contain stories. Whether relics from an ancient civilisation or symbols of artistic expression, the broken pieces that people and places leave behind become tethers to the past — and transformation. The Palazzo Strozzi’s new exhibition explores this with extraordinary detail, featuring works from masters like Giovanni Pisano, and Michelangelo alongside sculptures by contemporary artists Louise Bourgeois, Huma Bhabha and more. There are more than eighty works and artefacts on display in total, including ones loaned from prestigious museums across the globe. Together, these form a powerful exploration of shifting symbolism that questions: how does meaning change when something is broken? Find out more here.

The 2000s were a wild time for TV, but one of the more shocking was To Catch a Predator. The reality-based American series centred around sting operations, where adults would pose as minors online to lure predators back to a house filled with cameras. Robert Pattinson plays the show’s unnervingly calm host, Chris Hansen, in a big screen dramatisation that delves into the show’s peak success and darker history; exposing the greed lurking beneath its facade of justice. Musician Phoebe Bridgers, Merritt Wever (Christy) and Anna Faris (Scary Movie) also star.
Bonus highlight: A new revival of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and George MacKay, is out at cinemas from the 25 September (with staggered dates across Europe).
TV series
Brothers

Here is a fact you might not know about actors Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson: they might actually be brothers. Well, half-brothers. After McConaughey’s mother revealed she had known Harrelson’s father (in a tone that seemed to insinuate something), the pair began speculating on the timeline and worked out they could indeed be related. While they’ve never done an official DNA test, they have created a TV series inspired by it — a goofy, Texas-set comedy in which the actors play fictionalised versions of themselves. As McConaughey would say, “alright, alright, alright”.
Bonus highlight: The 13th season of anthology series American Horror Story streams from 25 September on Disney+.

M83 – I Wrote You A Letter

It’s 25 years since Anthony Gonzalez released M83’s self-titled debut album — and the French band’s ambient, shoegaze sound has continued to lure listeners since. ‘I Wrote You A Letter’ marks the occasion, aptly drawing on nostalgia to create an immersive and cinematic experience that’s textured with the more unpredictable, punk energy of their earlier works. This will be a promising sign for fans, many of whom still miss the band’s peak successes in the early 2010s. The world is weird and confusing, take us back to Midnight City!
Bonus highlight: Ruddy hell, it’s Soft Cell! The ’80s chart-topping duo are releasing their sixth — and apparently final — studio album, ‘ Danceteria’. Out 25 September.
