Winter is coming and that means only one thing – it’s time to dust off the skis and get ready to hit the slopes.

In Europe, we’re lucky to have the world’s most developed ski market, with the Alps a traditional favourite alongside resorts in the Dolomites, Pyrenees, Scandinavia, the Balkans, and Central and Eastern Europe.

In fact, according to the Skiresort.com database, Europe is home to more than 3,900 resorts, with 37,800 kilometres of marked slopes and more than 16,800 ski lifts.

With so many ski destinations to choose from, there’s no shortage of places to stay. Here are some of the hotels and lodges opening or reopening this winter.

New ski hotels and lodges in Europe

Fahrenheit Seven Les Menuires, France

Fahrenheit Seven will open its Les Menuires hotel on 11 December 2026, adding a third Alpine address to its collection after Val Thorens and Courchevel. Set on the ski front in the Preyerand district, it promises direct access to Les 3 Vallées, along with an in-house ski boutique, bar, restaurants, terrace and indoor pool.

The First Cortina, by The Pavilions, Italy

The First Cortina, by The Pavilions is scheduled to open in early December 2026 on Corso Italia, in the centre of Cortina d’Ampezzo. Its 76 rooms and suites put guests within reach of the Dolomites while offering a base in town. Some suites even have private wellness facilities and terraces with mountain views. Dining options include Zuma (contemporary Japanese) and Velo (Italian) and there will also be a dedicated ski room and REVĪVŌ Spa.

The Green Resort, Zillertal, Austria

The Green Resort is due to welcome guests in Uderns from December 2026, combining a Zillertal ski base with a substantial wellness offering. Its 3,300-square-metre indoor and outdoor spa area includes pools, saunas and steam baths. For snowsports fans, the hotel offers a seven-night winter ski package which includes accommodation, meals, a six-day Zillertal Super Ski Pass per person, plus wellness treatments.

The Ski Lodge, Verbier, Switzerland

Opening in December 2026, The Ski Lodge is a 36-room boutique hotel close to Verbier’s Place Centrale. As well as its location, other highlights include a spa and a bar. The state-of-the-art spa will have an indoor swimming pool, cold plunge, sauna, hammam and a relaxation area. While the hotel’s bar, The Listening Room, will be open for guests and visitors.

Schiefergut Family Resort, Flachau, Austria

Families heading to Flachau in Austria will have a new option when Schiefergut opens in December 2026. The four-star resort has 28 suites and chalets and is located close to the ski lifts, Snow Space Salzburg, the Achter Jet lift, and cross-country trails.

Hôtel Le Tremplin, Morzine, France

Following an extensive three-year renovation, Hôtel Le Tremplin in the heart of Morzine is opening 13 self-contained holiday suites for the 2026-2027 ski season. This marks the full reopening of the property after the bar, restaurant and après-ski terrace returned last winter.

Garance Hotel & Spa, Morzine, France

The former Les Airelles hotel in Morzine is set to return as Garance Hotel & Spa in December 2026. Close to the ski lifts, and the legendary slopes of the Portes du Soleil ski area, the four-star Mont-Blanc Collection property will have 65 rooms, a brasserie, cocktail bar and spaces for children and teenagers. Its wellness facilities are planned to include a pool, Nordic spa, treatment rooms and areas for yoga and fitness.

Also on the horizon

Les Gets celebrates 90th year with new snowpark

While not a new property, Les Gets resort in Haute-Savoie, France, is celebrating a milestone year – the 90th anniversary of its first ski lift – and will welcome a new snowpark in 2026.

Designed for beginners, the snowpark beneath the La Croix chairlift will replace the mini boardercross course.

Les Gets plans a partial opening on 12 December 2026, subject to snow conditions, followed by full opening on 19 December 2026. The season is scheduled to run until 11 April 2027.

Raffles and One&Only in Courchevel 1850

Ok, so these next two luxury properties will not be ready for a few years just yet, but they are certainly worth adding to your winter travel bucket list.

Slated to open in 2028, Raffles Hotels & Resorts will debut its first ever-alpine resort in Courchevel 1850, one of skiing’s most iconic addresses which sits at the heart of Les 3 Vallées in the French Alps, the world’s largest interconnected ski area.

Then a couple of years later in 2030, One&Only Resort and Private Homes will also open in Courchevel 1850, the brand’s first resort in the French Alps.
