Ancient Egypt apparently predicted The Simpsons. More seriously though, a discovered tomb features a painting that looks suspiciously like a character from the beloved American sitcom. The internet is loving it.

Discovering an ancient Egyptian tomb is one thing… But what about discovering an ancient Egyptian tomb with a painting on it that bears an uncanny resemblance to a character from American animated sitcom The Simpsons?

That’s precisely what happened when a 3000-year-old tomb was discovered in an ancient cemetery in the Egyptian city of Minya, on the western bank of the Nile – with the upper lid looking like Marge Simpson.

The painting features a woman with yellow-coloured skin, a blue crown and a green outfit. It’s pretty spot on!

Check it out for yourself:

The picture has gone viral on a Reddit thread – poetically and appropriately called ArtefactPorn – with viewers being quick to point out the striking resemblance.

“Oh my f***ing god it’s Marge Simpson,” wrote one, while another stated: “The only documented time in history where The Simpsons didn’t do it first.”

That second comment refers to the popular conspiracy theory which claims that The Simpsons can predict world events. We wrote a whole piece about it here, and it was in the news twice with the US presidential elections this year: here (Santa’s Little Helper goes viral after Trump-Harris debate) and here (Did The Simpsons predict the outcome of the US elections?).

Now, a new chapter opens: Ancient Egypt apparently predicted The Simpsons.

While the internet can have its fun with the discovery, it’s worth pointing out that in reality, the painting depicts the daughter of a high priest in El-Ashmunein called Tadi Ist.

The cemetery reportedly dates back to the “New Kingdom, 20th Dynasty (circa 1186-1069 B.C.),” with Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities adding in a statement that there were also ornaments, amulets and coffins that have been discovered.

“It is a rare and important scene. Every scene of the hour has its shape,” the Supreme Council of Antiquities Secretary General Mostafa Waziry told The Egyptian Gazette.

Granted, but have we considered that Marge Simpson might not be a mere cartoon character but a time-travelling goddess that has influenced countless civilizations over the span of history?

Ignore us. Probably best to not give anyone any ideas…
