“Shortly after 12.20am today [Thursday], we were alerted to a fire at a premises on Woodland Terrace in the Washington area,” they said. “Emergency services attended and no one is reported to have been injured in the incident.”

Images show the constituency office was burnt out and the roof destroyed.

A spokesperson for Hodgson, who has been an MP since 2005, confirmed an “incident occurred overnight” at the office and said she would “not be deterred” in continuing to support constituents.

“We will not be commenting or speculating while there is an ongoing police investigation; what we are clear on is there is no place for this kind of violence in our society,” the spokesperson added.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s spokesperson echoed that sentiment.

“There is absolutely no place for this kind of violence in our society,” he said.
