Mother Monster joins music royalty with a new record cemented by her duet with Bruno Mars, ‘Die With A Smile’.
Lady Gaga has reached a major milestone, one only previously achieved by Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson. She has become the third-ever act to have multiple Number One songs across three different decades.
Previously, she had Number Ones with ‘Just Dance’ and ‘Poker Face’ in 2009; ‘Born This Way’ in 2011; ‘Shallow’ in 2019; and ‘Rain On Me’ in 2020. However, with her latest hit song with Bruno Mars, ‘Die With A Smile’, Mother Monster has officially joined music industry legends Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson.
Gaga’s sixth No. 1 hit song on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart was released nearly five months ago and finally reached the top spot after being blocked by Shaboozey’s ‘Tipsy (A Bar Song)’, cementing her status as music royalty.
Michael Jackson achieved the milestone in the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, while his sister Janet did it in the ’80s, ’90s, and ’10s.
Taking to Instagram to celebrate ‘Die With A Smile’ reaching the top of the Billboard Hot 100, Lady Gaga spoke to fans and shared her gratitude for the milestone.
“I am so honoured to be an artist and to have had your ears for this long,” she said. “Thank you for listening and dancing and making your art along with mine.”
As highlighted by Stereogum, many artists have had chart-toppers across three decades, but very few have had more than one in each of the 10-year-spans. For instance, you would need to include Paul McCartney’s work with The Beatles for him to qualify, and Madonna would need one more Number One in the ‘00s to make it.
Lady Gaga is set to release her seventh album this year – a record which we included in our Most Anticipated Albums of 2025 list. Currently dubbed ‘LG7’, listeners have already had tasters with the dark-pop single ‘Disease’. There’s no ETA for the time being, but she’s described the album as “true chaos.” Bring it on.
