In this context, resilience has become a practical priority for governments and businesses. On Wednesday January 21, Euronews will host a high-level debate, Partnering with Japan: Strategic Investment for Enhanced Resilience.

The event will be livestreamed on this page from 1600 to 1700 CET.

Senior figures from business and policy in Japan and Europe will exchange views on three broad themes: Japan’s strengthening of national resilience through strategic investment; how public-private partnerships can facilitate risk management and innovation; and, finally, Japan’s role in a geopolitical context. Together, these discussions will explore how investment decisions made today can shape economic security in the years ahead.

The session will provide valuable insights into the ways in which one of the world’s most powerful economies is navigating an increasingly volatile global environment, and how Japan is working with Europe and other partners around the world to strengthen its economy and create long-term stability.

Speakers will address the thinking behind current policies as well as the role of tech, finance and long-term planning in making countries more resistant to future shocks and better able to adapt to rapid change.

Issues under discussion will include practical strategies to build on collaboration across borders: how governments and businesses can work together more effectively; how investment can support sustainable growth; and where opportunities are emerging for international investors looking to Japan. Contributions will come from senior Japanese and international business and policy leaders and will focus on real-world examples, along with actual choices facing decision-makers today.

The event will take place at the Euronews hub in Davos, and will follow a conversational, unscripted format designed to encourage an open exchange of views. There will be a short screening of Euronews content highlighting Japanese innovation, followed by a moderated panel discussion.

Speakers will include:

  • Yoshito Hori — Founder and President of GLOBIS University, Founding Partner of GLOBIS Capital Partners, and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of GLOBIS
  • Kumiko Pivette — Geopolitical Risk Advisory Lead, PwC Japan
  • Zsolt Darvas — Senior Fellow, Bruegel
  • Jan-Hein Chrisstoffels — Senior Research Fellow, Clingendael Institute
