Long prized for its wild coastline, vineyards and slower pace of life, Portugal’s Alentejo region is now emerging as one of Europe’s hotel hotspots.

A string of luxury openings and boutique launches, as well as reopenings following refurbishments, across the likes of Comporta, Melides and Évora, is bringing a new range of exciting accommodations to the destination, while reinforcing its appeal as an alternative to Portugal’s busier tourist hubs.

“These unique hotels – many of them at the luxury end of the market – are strengthening Alentejo’s position as an authentic and exclusive destination, with a strong vision for the future,” says José Manuel Santos, President of the Alentejo and Ribatejo Regional Tourism Board and Alentejo Regional Tourism Promotion Agency.

These are the new openings and upcoming launches to know about now.

Sublime Comporta Villas, Comporta

In the coastal village of Comporta, Sublime Comporta Villas relaunched in May, adding new, private villas to the existing hotel.

Each of the 43 new spaces, which take inspiration from the natural landscape, feature indoor-outdoor living, and some boast their own private pools.

With the relaunch comes new restaurants, including Beefbar, serving up internationally renowned meats, and Davvero Comporta, a hub for fresh Italian cuisine.

Quinta Amala, Melides

Recently opened, Quinta Amala is a peaceful spot, set within a 12-acre estate dotted with pine trees and rice fields.

Around 30 minutes’ drive from Comporta, the boutique hotel offers seven independent wooden cabins and rooms with terraces or balconies.

There’s also a six-bedroom villa and, in total, the property can host around 40 guests at one time, making it ideal for large parties.

Onsite, you’ll find a restaurant, two outdoor swimming pools – one which is heated – as well as a sauna, a gym and spaces to practice yoga.

Ando Living Comporta House, Comporta

Located in between Comporta and Melides, Ando Living Comporta House, comprising 16 villas, will open in July 2026.

Featuring contemporary architecture and private pools, each property will offer expansive terraces with panoramic views.

Inside the villas, expect Arabic-inspired influences, with airy interiors, earth tone decor and plenty of glass doors to maximise natural light.

Vermelho Lagoa, Melides

A new project from renowned designer Christian Louboutin, the Vermelho Lagoa hotel in Melides is expected to open its doors by the end of the year.

Hot on the heels of Vermelho Melides, the French designer’s first hotel in the region, the luxurious hub will welcome guests amongst a tranquil lagoon landscape, and feature a spa and an infinity pool.

Gastronomy fans will be well catered for, too, with a high-end restaurant only available to guests, and a rooftop bar which will be a perfect spot for a sundowner.

Torre Vã, Ourique

In October, when Portugal is still fairly balmy, Torre Vã is expected to open in the town of Ourique.

An existing estate will be transformed into a five-star rural hotel, and feature accommodation in the main building alongside other buildings dotted throughout the grounds.

It’s set to pay tribute to its agricultural heritage and focus on experiences linked to nature, gastronomy, wine and rural life.

More openings coming in 2027

Next year will be an important one for the region, as the city of Évora has been named as one of the European Capitals of Culture 2027.

Évora will play host to the 27-bedroom Hotel Santo André Évora by Wot Signature, in its historic centre, and the Entre Hotel, an 18-bedroom boutique hotel situated between Praça do Giraldo and the Cathedral, will also welcome guests.

Further east in Monsaraz, Dom Nuno hotel will open in June, set within the ancient village’s picturesque walls.

Also in 2027, both NUMA Comporta and Na Praia will launch in Comporta, adding two more reasons to explore the region and its unique offerings.
