American clothes designer Ralph Lauren and the US Postal Service have unveiled a new set of stamps to honour the United States 250th birthday this year.

The collection depicts various images of America and were taken from Ralph Lauren’s archive and from visuals that have inspired him.

Many stamp collectors and fans dressed up in red, white and blue for the occasion at the James A. Farley Post Office in midtown, New York.

The celebration was attended by several postal dignitaries as well as the Lauren family and US media personality Katie Couric.

“Ralph is an icon. He represents all the American values that I hold dear,“ said Couric. “And I am just truly honoured to be here to celebrate him and celebrate our country and what he’s meant to it.”

The collection contains 13 selected stamps to represent the original 13 colonies of the United States.

David Lauren, Chief Innovation Officer for Ralph Lauren said: “It’s an incredible task to select 13 images to define America. There are many more that we would have picked.

“But these are images that have great symbolism. And behind every photograph is a story about American ingenuity, about American craft, about American leadership and love and passion.”
