From border management and asylum rules to integration and the rights of people living in Europe without legal status, migration continues to raise difficult questions for policymakers.

Spanish MEP Juan Fernando López Aguilar (Socialists & Democrats) and Swedish MEP Tomas Tobé (European People’s Party) discuss how Europe should manage migration, including the use of the “safe third country” concept and Spain’s large-scale regularisation plan.

Another major issue on the EU agenda this year was the EU-Mercosur trade agreement. With the deal dividing opinion across Europe, Swedish EPP MEP Jörgen Warborn and Irish Renew MEP Ciaran Mullooly debate its potential benefits and drawbacks, from economic opportunities to the impact on European industries and farmers.

The Ring also focuses on an issue affecting millions of Europeans: access to affordable housing. Rising rents, limited supply, and growing pressure on urban areas have pushed housing to the top of the political agenda.

We revisit a debate between the centre-right Dutch MEP Dirk Gotink and the Green Finnish MEP Maria Ohisalo, who offer contrasting views on how Europe should respond to the housing crisis and what role the EU can play in tackling it.

This special episode of The Ring is hosted by Méabh Mc Mahon and is produced by Luis Albertos Altarejos and Amaia Echevarria, and is edited and directed by Vassilis Glynos.
