The EU’s 27 foreign affairs ministers are in town – with Iran high on the agenda. After thousands were killed in the regime’s recent crackdown on protestors, EU ministers are expected to approve fresh sanctions, while Iran is on high alert for a possible US attack as Trump ramps up pressure on Tehran to strike a deal on its nuclear program. From the European Council, our EU correspondent Shona Murray fills us in.

One of those 27 foreign affairs minister in Brussels today is Xavier Bettel. He led Luxembourg for ten years and today is also the Deputy Prime Minister of the country. Bettel joins in our studio for a live interview with Mared Gwyn, stepping it today for Méabh Mc Mahon.

Then we look at the NATO boss Mark Rutte, after his remarks on the EU defence earlier this week angered Europeans. Our Jakub Janas has taken the opportunity to dig in and explain to our viewers who he really is.

Lastly, we travel to Italy, where public backlash is growing over the US’s decision to send officers from its ICE immigration agency, involved in a recent fatal shooting in Minneapolis, to the Winter Olympics in Italy next week. Our Italy correspondent Giorgia Orlandi fills us in from Rome.
