There are plenty of milestones in the first two years of life. Baby’s first smile, baby’s first words, baby’s first steps… but what about baby’s first holiday?

According to a new survey of 2,000 British parents who have taken their little ones abroad at least once before the age of five, 82% agreed that it was a landmark family moment, while more than half called it “one of their proudest parenting milestones”.

Now, easyJet is making it a little cheaper for those looking to head away with their sprogs as the airline group is offering to pay for the cost of a child’s passport in the UK.

The £66.50 (€79.40) discount on easyJet holidays is available for one child under the age of 18 months per booking. You’ll need to book before 26 November, for travel before 31 October 2028. Infants will need to be under two years old at the time of travel.

While the thought of travelling abroad with kids that young may be daunting, 48% of those polled said it was easier than they’d expected, and 87% would do it again.

According to easyJet holidays data, there has been a 10% increase in infants travelling this year compared to 2025, even though there are still two months left of the year.

“Travel has a unique way of bringing families together, and a baby’s very first holiday is often one of those moments parents remember for years to come,” Stuart Wright, customer director at easyJet holidays, said.

“By covering the cost of a baby’s first passport, we’re helping more families start making those memories that little bit sooner.”

Flying with kids under the age of two

Most airlines will allow infants under the age of two to travel for free on their parents’ lap. Many carriers – notably not easyJet, for the sake of this article – also offer bassinets that attach to the bulkhead wall in front of you that your little one can sleep in during the flight.

In the UK, child passports are valid for five years. Much like when applying for an adult passport, you’ll need to submit two identical photos of your child alongside various documents like the birth certificate, and your British passport to confirm your claim to British nationality.

Kids under the age of five don’t need to have a neutral expression or be looking directly at the camera for the photo; babies under the age of one don’t even need to have their eyes open.

You’ll need a countersignatory who can confirm your child’s identity. This person will need to have known you for at least two years, work in or be retired from a “recognised profession” such as a teacher or a social worker, live in the UK, and have a valid British or Irish passport themselves.

All the exact details about how to apply are on the UK government website.
