The Met Gala, “fashion’s biggest night out,” has once again delivered a night of dazzling fashion and unforgettable moments, as A-listers from the world of film, fashion, music, sports, politics, and social media gathered to celebrate Black style and emerging designers.
This year’s theme, “Tailored for You,” celebrated the exhibit “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which is spotlighting Black dandyism and the evolution of Black menswear over the centuries.
Co-chaired by Pharrell Williams, Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, Anna Wintour (with LeBron James absent due to a knee injury), the rainy evening in Manhattan was abundant with jaw-dropping looks and boundary-pushing style.
Black and white was the dominant colour scheme of the night, with pops of red for a bold touch, and even a dash of sky blue – notably in Wintour’s satin coat and Lupita Nyong’o’s aquamarine Chanel suit. And in one of the most memorable looks of the evening, Outkast rapper André 3000 swapped his trusty flute for a piano, literally strapping one to his back. It’s a look that has to be seen to be believed.
Here are the standout looks from this star-studded celebration:
