Despite the cost of living crisis, travel remains a top priority for many Europeans.
People aren’t, for the most part, cutting down on the number of holidays they take, but they are being far savvier about the places they visit in a bid to save some serious cash.
If you’re looking to do the same, we have good news, as Skyscanner has unveiled its list of the best-value destinations for 2027.
Compiled based on the percentage price drop for economy class return flights booked in the first half of the year for travel throughout 2026, compared to the same period last year, you could save as much as two-thirds on your flights. The pricing of accommodation in each of the places selected was also considered.
“As people become more intentional about how they spend their time and money, they’re making different choices about where they go, how they book and what creates lasting value,” Skyscanner CEO Bryan Batista said.
“They’re prioritising meaningful experiences over material possessions, seeking confidence in every booking decision, and, in some cases, using AI during the planning process.”
The best-value destinations for 2027
After all that number crunching, there was one clear winner: Bilbao in Spain.
With airfares down 66% and hotel stays down 63% compared to 2025, there’s never been a better time to explore Basque Country.
The world-famous Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is an obvious first port of call on any visit, but the city is also known for its fantastic foodie offering, so why not make your way through its bars trying various pintxos along the way?
Next up is Wrocław in Poland, where flights are down 47%, and hotel stays are cheaper than other major cities in the country.
With a history spanning more than 1,000 years, Wrocław has plenty to see and do, from Cathedral Island, which is still lit up by gas lanterns at night, to the UNESCO-listed Centennial Hall, an icon of reinforced concrete architecture.
In fantastic news for wine lovers, third place went to Bordeaux, where flights to the French city are down by a third and hotel rates by 9%.
Zürich in Switzerland might be a place you typically associate with high prices, but according to Skyscanner’s analysis, flight prices are down by a third, and hotels by 13%.
Rounding out the top five is Ancona in Italy, where flights are down 31% and hotel prices are down 13%.
