The new POLITICO Poll data offers a potential warning to right-wing populist parties trying to attract broader support while also getting closer to Trump, as people who said they would support such parties in a new vote were more negative about Trump than those who supported them in the past across the U.K., France and Germany. The U.S. president is even more unpopular across the general population. In France and Germany, two-thirds of respondents held a negative opinion of him. In the U.K., 55 percent reported negative views; barely more than in the U.S., where 50 percent said they had…

“It is a shot across the bow of the EU, and even NATO,” he purred, seemingly astonished that the 33-page document ever saw the light of day in its published form without being muted by the more fainthearted Trump aides. Famously, Bannon had once claimed he wanted “to drive a stake through the Brussels vampire.” And now, he and other MAGA influencers get to sharpen their stake with the encouragement of U.S. government policy. Above all, it’s what Bannon describes as the commitment to “back resistance movements to the globalists” that thrills him most. “It was pleasantly shocking that it…
Each December, the streets of Caucagua in northern Venezuela fill with colour and laughter for the Bandos and Parrandas of the Holy Innocents. The tradition dates back more than two centuries. Once a rare day of freedom for enslaved people, it became an act of resistance wrapped in humour. Today, locals keep that spirit alive by dressing as plantation owners, swapping riddles and parodies that mock power with wit rather than anger. Families and visitors join in, drawn by the joy of remembering how creativity can outlast oppression.
The United States on Monday announced a $2 billion pledge for UN humanitarian aid as President Donald Trump’s administration continues to slash US foreign assistance and warns United Nations agencies to “adapt, shrink or die” in a time of new financial realities. The money is a small fraction of what the US has contributed in the past but reflects what the administration believes is a generous amount that will maintain the United States’ status as the world’s largest humanitarian donor. The funding will be channelled through a centralised mechanism run by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs…

Despite an ongoing cost-of-living crisis and tighter purse strings, Europeans are raring to hit ski slopes this winter. At the same time, they’re on the lookout for great deals and ways to avoid the crowds while on holiday. While iconic ski destinations like St. Anton and Courchevel are still very popular, they have also become a lot more expensive and crowded over the years. New research by ski tour operator, Ski Solutions, shows that this has led to the rise of niche ski destination dupes like Gastein and Cervinia recently, especially as avoiding holiday crowds and saving money take priority…
However, Danish law guarantees citizens have the right to send and receive physical letters. So, with PostNord no longer offering the service, shipping and distribution company Dao will be stepping in. From January on, Danes wishing to send letters at home or abroad will have to hand them in at the private company’s shops — which already processed 30 million missives this year — and affix them with its corporate stamps. Dao said it’s “excited” to provide the service, for which the company is set to receive 110 million krone (€14.7 million) in government subsidies. And in a post on…
The United States has spent years tightening sanctions on Venezuela, attempting to choke off the oil revenues that sustain President Nicolás Maduro’s government. Washington has imposed sweeping restrictions on Venezuela’s state oil industry, threatened to seize or block tankers carrying the South American country’s distinctive heavy crude and warned companies around the world against doing business with Caracas. In early December, the US seized a sanctioned oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela, the first such seizure tied to Venezuelan oil under the current pressure campaign. The vessel involved, widely reported as the Skipper, added a geopolitical risk premium to…
