Despite 10 Academy Award nominations since 2019, Oscar glory has eluded Netflix. It’s not as if the streaming behemoth, which has more than 300 million subscribers, hasn’t been trying. It even came close several times, especially with Roma and The Power Of The Dog, and an Oscar – at least in Netflix’s mind – would legitimize their business strategy and the existential crisis it has inflicted on cinemas and the theatrical experience. But if it were up to James Cameron, the lack of Golden Baldies should continue. In an interview with Matthew Belloni on his podcast The Town with Matthew…
“It’s been demonstrated the last few years, time and time again, that Europe is dirty and needs to be cleaned up,” said O’Brien, as waiters in bowties served coffee to attendees. The latest embarrassment for the EU — the detention on Tuesday of former Commission Vice President Federica Mogherini and ex-top diplomatic official Stefano Sannino as part of a fraud probe — has given the right plenty of ammunition. At a panel on Thursday, French National Rally MEP Thierry Mariani and British political commentator Matthew Goodwin are set to take aim at the “deep-state web of civil service, NGOs and captured…
Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey faces another legal battle in London next year over civil sexual assault allegations, three years after he was cleared of criminal charges. The three people are suing the 66-year-old Oscar winner in civil cases linked to his time as artistic director of the Old Vic theatre. All three of the claims in the latest proceedings “relate to alleged sexual assaults by the defendant (Spacey) of younger men he came into contact with whilst working at the Old Vic theatre, two as young actors”, court documents said. The alleged offences took place between 2000 and 2015. Spacey…
Overconsumerism – whether on social media, online shopping platforms and physical stores – has been an ongoing trend for the last few years, made worse by the rise of social media, influencers, frequent deals and marketing campaigns. Major shopping events such as Black Friday, taking place tomorrow and kicking off the start of the annual holiday shopping season, have also exacerbated the issue. Previously only a single-day event, Black Friday now includes an entire weekend, taking in Cyber Monday as well. In some regions, this goes on for a full week, known as Cyber Week. However, now, more anti-consumerism movements…

Published on 27/11/2025 – 12:24 GMT+1 Johnny Cash’s estate has filed a lawsuit against Coca-Cola for a commercial, for which the company allegedly hired a tribute singer to imitate the country music legend’s voice. The ad began airing in August, and the complaint was filed this week in Nashville. It accuses the company of “pirating Johnny Cash’s voice in a nationwide advertising campaign to enrich itself – without asking for permission or providing any compensation.” The estate filed the complaint under the state’s ELVIS Act, which went into effect last July. The act protects a person’s voice from nonconsensual exploitation.…
Now, however, rumblings are growing louder that Lecornu has made a strategic error depriving him of a key tool needed to avert budgetary chaos — even if at the time it helped ensured his survival. Conservative leader Bruno Retailleau, a former minister who served in previous minority governments during Macron’s second term, urged Lecornu in a radio interview to go back on his word and trigger the constitutional clause, Article 49.3, to pass “a budget aligned with our nation’s interest.” Such a move would be risky too, as lawmakers are allowed to respond to the triggering of Article 49.3 by…

Back in July, Palestine Action was banned,…
