During an exclusive interview with POLITICO, he predicted Ukraine will face a “very difficult winter” under relentless Russian bombardment — and argued Kyiv’s government has made that worse through a series of missteps. Adding fuel to his clash with Zelenskyy’s team, Kudrytskyi was charged last week with embezzlement, prompting an outcry from Ukraine’s civil society and opposition lawmakers. They say Kudrytskyi’s arraignment involving a contract — one of hundreds — he authorized seven years ago, when he was a deputy director at Ukrenergo, is a glaring example of the aggressive use of lawfare by the Ukrainian leadership to intimidate opponents,…
He argued the BoE had “failed” under Conservative Liz Truss, who was forced out as prime minister after bond yields spiked in the wake of a tax-cutting budget, leading banks to increase their lending rates. Tice accused City regulators of “missing” the issue of liability-driven investments (LDIs), which increased the strain on pension funds during that period, and said the Bank of England “could have actually stepped in and prevented the carnage.” Truss has repeatedly blamed the Bank of England for failing to anticipate the market consequences of her budget. Residents of Afghanistan’s northern Samangan province were clearing debris on Monday after a powerful earthquake struck the region, killing at least 20 people and injuring more than 640, officials said. The impoverished nation often struggles to respond to such disasters, with many rural homes made of mud brick and wood, leaving them highly vulnerable to collapse.
