Terms like “filete de lubina” (sea bass filet) and “lomos de atún” (tuna loin or steak) are common on fish labels, according to Daniel Voces de Onaíndi, managing director of Europêche. The EU seafood industry trade association backs the principle behind the veggie burger ban when it comes to blocking vegetables from using words associated with meat or fish. But ambiguity about non-English terms could ensnare fish, Voces de Onaíndi noted with alarm. He called on EU negotiators to sort out the issue during interinstitutional talks on the broader legislation, which is related to the EU’s common agricultural market. “We hope…
By Euronews Published on 16/11/2025 – 22:13 GMT+1 •Updated 23:00 German Chancellor Friedrich Merz backed the government’s pension reform package on Sunday, putting him at odds with the Junge Union youth wing of his party, which opposes the legislation. “Yes, I will vote in favour of this pension package with a clear conscience when it comes to a vote in the German Bundestag,” Merz said at the Junge Union’s Germany Day in Rust, southern Baden. He said the reform was only the prelude to a more comprehensive debate on fundamental changes in the welfare state. The reorganisation of the pension system…
Jannik Sinner won the final chapter of the “Sincaraz” rivalry for 2025, beating world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz 7-6 (4), 7-5 to lift the ATP Finals trophy on Sunday. The victory marked only Sinner’s second win over Alcaraz this year, following his triumph in the Wimbledon final, and came in front of home fans in Italy. Alcaraz, who had already secured the year-end No. 1 ranking, was playing his first ATP Finals championship match. Despite the loss, he still leads their career series 10-6, with the pair contesting the last three Grand Slam finals and splitting the season’s majors two…
Security guarantees Europe should take an approach on Ukraine “based on the European interest,” Orbán said, adding that he is “not interested” in whether Moscow is winning or losing. Orbán said he is “interested in the future of the European people, among them, the future of the Hungarians,” and “a new security system.” A postwar security arrangement for Ukraine should involve “a peace arrangement which stabilize[s] the borders, whether internationally recognized or not,” and “definitely a kind of demilitarized zone,” Orbán said. Unless a “miracle” happens, Russia will continue occupying the eastern Ukrainian territory of Donetsk after the war, Orbán…
A volcano on Sakurajima in southwestern Japan erupted again on Sunday. The Minamidake crater spewed a column of smoke and ash thousands of meters into the air. It is the first eruption from the crater since October last year. Authorities issued an ashfall alert for the surrounding prefectures of Kumamoto, Kagoshima, and Miyazaki. Sakurajima, about 1,000 kilometers southwest of Tokyo, is one of Japan’s most active volcanoes. It used to be an island but a lava flow created a land bridge to the Osumi Peninsula during the 1914 eruption that killed 58 people.
“Ukraine gains direct access to diversified and reliable energy sources, while Greece becomes a hub for supplying Central and Eastern Europe with American liquefied natural gas,” Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said, emphasizing Greece’s growing role as an energy hub. The agreement will “cover nearly €2 billion needed for gas imports to compensate for the losses in Ukrainian production caused by Russian strikes,” Zelenskyy said in a statement Sunday. The deal was signed during a visit by Zelenskyy to Athens, attended by Mitsotakis, Greek Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou and U.S. Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle. The agreement signed on Sunday formalized a declaration…
Ukraine is working on a prisoner exchange with Russia that could see the return of 1,200 Ukrainians from captivity, as Kyiv also seeks to resume negotiations on ending Russia’s invasion. “We are working to ensure another start to negotiations, so that after all there is a prospect to end this war,” Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a statement on Sunday. “We are also counting on the resumption of POW exchanges — many meetings, negotiations, and calls are currently taking place to ensure this,” Zelenskyy added. Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Secretary, Rustem Umerov, said on Telegram that he…

The Congress can overturn some or all of Lula’s vetoes with a majority in both houses and he would not be able to veto again. On Wednesday, senators indicated they wanted to hold a vote in both houses of Congress on Nov. 27 on the vetoes — only six days after diplomats are scheduled to leave Belém. The Congress is likely to repeat its previous vote and overturn the president’s vetoes, said Suely Araújo, the former president of Brazil’s government forest protection agency, now a public policy coordinator at the Climate Observatory NGO. “I really don’t think that Lula has…
Published on 16/11/2025 – 15:12 GMT+1 •Updated 15:13 The self-styled Generation Z called for simultaneous marches this Saturday in 52 cities in Mexico and in countries such as the United States, Canada, the Netherlands and Germany. What began as a peaceful protest at the Angel of Independence ended with violent clashes in the country’s most emblematic square. The trigger for the movement in Mexico was the murder of the mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo, on 1 November. The mayor had repeatedly called on the federal government to pay attention to the organised crime plaguing Michoacán, but his request was ignored.…
