The 50 best cities in the world have just been revealed, with 19 of the top spots taken by destinations in Europe. The annual ranking from Time Out is based on a reader survey that asks residents about elements like quality of life, affordability, arts and culture, the food and nightlife scene, green spaces and more. This year, more than 24,000 people took part across 150 cities. Reader responses were then combined with the votes of more than 100 Time Out city experts to create the final list. In a note sent to the prime minister on Dec. 11 2024, which included a copy of the due diligence review into Mandelson’s background, Keir Starmer was told his chief of staff Morgan McSweeney had also “discussed Peter’s relationship with Jeffery [sic] Epstein.” The note added: “But your Director of Communications is satisfied with his responses to questions about contact.” Jonathan Powell says he raised the alarm over the ‘unusual’ appointment process Starmer’s National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell claimed to have raised concerns about Mandelson directly with Starmer’s ex-chief of staff McSweeney — but was told they had been addressed.…

The hiring competition — aimed at generalists rather than specialists in areas such as HR, law and translation — has not been held since 2019, meaning many aspiring officials have been working as temporary agents or agency staff, without the job security or benefits of those employed by the EU. A number of countries launched campaigns to try and encourage their citizens to apply, eyeing an opportunity to correct underrepresentation inside the EU and cement their influence for decades to come. Some capitals have even gone as far as paying for test practices and offering mentoring to candidates. Just 22,644 people…

Since US and Israeli forces unleashed their strikes against Iranian targets — killing Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and decimating Iran’s military and security forces — Tehran has launched a campaign of missile and drone bombardment against the region at an unprecedented scale. Iranian projectiles have hit Israeli and Gulf targets, and an Iran-made drone targeted a British base in Cyprus — prompting Prime Minister Keir Starmer to open UK bases for US defensive counter-strikes on Iranian missile sites. Furthermore, NATO air defence systems intercepted two Iranian ballistic missiles heading toward — or already entering — Turkish airspace, a threshold Tehran has…

Iran unleashed an intense wave of strikes across the Gulf region on Wednesday morning, while continuing its stranglehold of the Strait of Hormuz, in an intense attacking upsurge signalling that the war continues unabated, despite US President Donald Trump’s statements on Tuesday night that the intervention was “pretty much” completed. Euronews journalists in Doha and Dubai reported intensive waves of Iranian attacks on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning in the two capitals and across the region. Two Iranian drones fell in the vicinity of Dubai International Airport on Wednesday morning, the second time after a similar strike on Saturday, injuring…

Published on 11/03/2026 – 12:11 GMT+1 The 98th Academy Awards are nearly here, which means we get to be nosy / jealous / indignant about this year’s celebrity swag bags. Whether you win or lose at the Oscars, no one goes home empty-handed as a lavish goodie bag is given to the acting and directing nominees. As if A-listers needed more stuff… But Hollywood’s gonna Hollywood, and this year’s consolation gift bags are reportedly worth $350,000. Each. Once again, and for the 24th year running, LA-based entertainment marketing company Distinctive Assets is independently producing the “Everyone Wins” nominee swag bags,…

Asian members — hit hardest thanks to their heavy exposure to the Persian Gulf — and the U.S. are also strongly supportive of tapping the reserves, according to two European officials familiar with the matter. French President Emmanuel has convened a virtual meeting of G7 leaders at 3 p.m., which is expected to address the release decision. The IEA — a key venue for wealthy countries to coordinate oil and gas supplies set up after the 1973 oil embargo — first proposed the measure late Tuesday during an extraordinary all-members meeting that followed a gathering of the G7, according to another person familiar…

By&nbspTokunbo Salako&nbspwith&nbspAP Published on 11/03/2026 – 12:33 GMT+1 A rare painting by the Italian baroque master Caravaggio, thought to date from 1598, has been bought by Italy for €30 million, in one of the country’s largest investments for a piece of art. The “Portrait of Monsignor Maffeo Barberini” depicts the future pope in his 30s, dressed as a cleric of the Apostolic Chamber, at a crucial moment in his rise to power. He went on to become Pope Urban VIII in 1623 and was notable for being a patron of the arts and Baroque architecture. The work was made famous…
