A police operation is underway at the main train station in the southern German city of Augsburg after at least two people were injured in an explosion in a passageway.

According to German media reports an object detonated causing minor injuries and blowing out nearby windows.

The nature of the device has not yet been established.

The station building and one track have been closed, police said, and a restricted service is operating on the other line.

Public transportation around the station building has also been affected.

A police probe is ongoing.
