Iconic, provocative and most certainly unconventional. Frank Gehry’s avant-garde buildings challenged traditional architectural forms by featuring unusual materials and fluid shapes.

To mark the architect’s death at the age of 96, Euronews Culture has compiled a small collection of some of his most famous works which manage to successfully blend in with their surroundings while demanding your attention.

Here’s a look at some of his most memorable designs from around the world.

Walt Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles, USA

Louis Vuitton Foundation art museum and cultural centre, Paris, France

The Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, Las Vegas, United States

Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art, Biloxi, Mississippi, United States

Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao, Spain

Biomuseo, Panama City, Panama

The Gehry-designed Guggenheim Museum in Abu Dhabi, first proposed in 2006, is expected to finally be completed in 2026 after a series of construction delays and sporadic work.

The 30,000-square-foot (2,787-square-metre) structure will be the world’s largest Guggenheim, leaving a lasting legacy in the capital city of the United Arab Emirates.
