“It is our national duty to protect the German culture from foreign influence,” he said, rolling his “R” and speaking in a cadence reminiscent of Hitler.

Chrupalla told a TV show on Monday night: “He has already received the party expulsion notice and will leave the party. We don’t want people like [him] in our party.” He labeled the speech “bad satire” and said Eichwald only joined the AfD two months ago.

After Eichwald’s speech, AfD members questioned whether his contribution was meant seriously. One member asked him whether he was an informant for Germany’s domestic intelligence service.

Eichwald replied: “This question probably results from my rolling ‘R.’ I am a Russia German and was taught to speak this way.”
